Tree removal pricing varies more than almost any other home service, and that's because no two trees are alike. The good news is that the variables are predictable. Once you understand what actually drives the price, you can spot a fair quote at a glance.
Height and trunk diameter are the starting point. A 25-foot ornamental in an open yard is a fundamentally different job than a 70-foot oak overhanging the house, even though both are 'one tree.'
Access is the second biggest factor. Can the crew get a chip truck and bucket within 30 feet of the trunk? Can a crane be set up in the driveway? Or does every piece of wood and brush have to be hand-carried 200 feet through a side gate? Access can easily double a quote on the same tree.
Proximity to structures and utilities is the third. A tree we can free-fall in one piece in an open field is straightforward. The same tree two feet from your roof and ten feet from a power line requires a climber, rigging, and sometimes a crane — and every one of those adds time and equipment cost.
Stump grinding is usually quoted separately but bundled at a discount. Expect $75-$250 for a typical residential stump if added to the same visit, more if it's standalone or unusually large.
